CORINNE COUTURE M.M.
The MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, Friday, October 15, 1982 by AL REISS IF LOVE BE THE FOOD OF MUSIC, LISTEN TO THE FEAST The world loves a love story. This one is set to music the newlyweds make themselves. Corinne   Beyer   Couture   and   her   husband,   Jerome   Couture,   met   two   years   ago   when   they   were students   at   the   San   Francisco   Conservatory   of   Music.   Mrs.   Couture   is   a   graduate   of   Medford Senior   High   School.   Her   parents   are   Mr.   and   Mrs.   Fred   Beyer,   Jacksonville.   Corinne’s   mother, Joan Beyer, is an artist, owner of Jacksonville’s Village Gallery. Jerome is from Portland where he played viola in the Youth Philharmonic. Corinne   played   piano   with   the   Jacksonville   Melodrama   for   10   years,   as   well   as   in   other local performances. Now,   as   a   husband-wife   duo,   Jerome   and   Corinne   are   appearing   in   the   Bella   Union’s cocktail   lounge   in   Jacksonville   on   Friday   and   Saturday   evenings.   Corinne   plays   the   piano   while Jerome   plays   the   electric   violin.   If   audience   appreciation   is   any   indicator,   they’ll   be   adding   a   few more   nights   to   their   performance   schedule.   Last   Saturday   night   a   packed   house   applauded,   toe- tapped   and   sang   along   as   Jerome   and   Corinne   painted   the   musical   spectrum   from   shows   like “Cabaret”   and   “My   Fair   Lady”   and   “Fiddler   on   the   Roof”   to   the   piano   rag   of   Scott   Joplin   to   Claude Bolling jazz to hoedown. Music from the 1930s to 1960s figures importantly into their program. The   couple’s   classical   music   training   enriches   the   popular   tunes.   Their   range   is   full   and crowd-pleasing.    When    they    met    at    the    San    Francisco    Conservatory    of    Music,    Corinne    was working   on   her   Master’s   Degree.   In   San   Francisco   she   studied   piano   with   Peggy   Salkind.   When she   was   attending   high   school   in   Medford,   she   studied   with   Frances   Madachy   at   Southern Oreogn   state   College,   Ashland.   Corinne   also   studied   with   Dr.   Calvin   Knapp   and   Mrs.   Knapp   at Pacific Lutheran University. Jerome    was    working    on    his    Bachelor    of    Music    Degree    ath    the    conservatory.    He’s transferred   to   SOSC   to   complete   that.   In   San   Francisco   Jerome   studied   wiola   with   Gennady Kleyman   and   violin   with   Leonid   Gesin.   He   also   plays   mandolin   and   guitar.   Jerome   plans   to   add that instrumentation to the Bella Union show. Corinne   and   Jerome   were   married   in   San   Francisco   on   June   20,   1982.   Noting   the   import   of the   day,   Jerome   says,   “It   was   the   last   day   of   spring;   the   summer   solstice.   It   was   Father’s   Day,   my brother-in-law’s birthday and Corinne’s birthday.” The   couple   moved   to   the   Rogue   Valley,   “To   start   the   ball   rolling   musically   up   here,”   Jerome says. Corinne   teaches   piano   in   Ashland.   She   is   accompanist   for   the   upcoming   SOSC   musical, “Something’s Afoot.” Corinne   and   Jerome   are   also   involved   in   production   of   a   film.   He’s   writig   the   music. Corinne’s   brother   is   producing   it.   Oregon   Shakespearean   Festival   actor   Bruce   Gooch   will   narrate the film. Gooch is married to Corinne’s sister who is a wigmaker and hairstylist at the festival. “It’s all in the family,” Corinne says. When   Corinne   and   Jerome   play   at   the   Bella   Union,   the   audience   feels   like   part   of   the   family too.
