This one is set to music the newlyweds make themselves.Corinne Beyer Couture and her husband, Jerome Couture, met two years ago when they were students at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Mrs. Couture is a graduate of Medford Senior High School. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Fred Beyer, Jacksonville. Corinne’s mother, Joan Beyer, is an artist, owner of Jacksonville’s Village Gallery.Jerome is from Portland where he played viola in the Youth Philharmonic.Corinne played piano with the Jacksonville Melodrama for 10 years, as well as in other local performances.Now, as a husband-wife duo, Jerome and Corinne are appearing in the Bella Union’s cocktail lounge in Jacksonville on Friday and Saturday evenings. Corinne plays the piano while Jerome plays the electric violin. If audience appreciation is any indicator, they’ll be adding a few more nights to their performance schedule. Last Saturday night a packed house applauded, toe-tapped and sang along as Jerome and Corinne painted the musical spectrum from shows like “Cabaret” and “My Fair Lady” and “Fiddler on the Roof” to the piano rag of Scott Joplin to Claude Bolling jazz to hoedown. Music from the 1930s to 1960s figures importantly into their program.The couple’s classical music training enriches the popular tunes. Their range is full and crowd-pleasing. When they met at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Corinne was working on her Master’s Degree. In San Francisco she studied piano with Peggy Salkind. When she was attending high school in Medford, she studied with Frances Madachy at Southern Oreogn state College, Ashland. Corinne also studied with Dr. Calvin Knapp and Mrs. Knapp at Pacific Lutheran University.Jerome was working on his Bachelor of Music Degree ath the conservatory. He’s transferred to SOSC to complete that. In San Francisco Jerome studied wiola with Gennady Kleyman and violin with Leonid Gesin. He also plays mandolin and guitar. Jerome plans to add that instrumentation to the Bella Union show.Corinne and Jerome were married in San Francisco on June 20, 1982. Noting the import of the day, Jerome says, “It was the last day of spring; the summer solstice. It was Father’s Day, my brother-in-law’s birthday and Corinne’s birthday.”The couple moved to the Rogue Valley, “To start the ball rolling musically up here,” Jerome says.Corinne teaches piano in Ashland. She is accompanist for the upcoming SOSC musical, “Something’s Afoot.”Corinne and Jerome are also involved in production of a film. He’s writig the music. Corinne’s brother is producing it. Oregon Shakespearean Festival actor Bruce Gooch will narrate the film. Gooch is married to Corinne’s sister who is a wigmaker and hairstylist at the festival.“It’s all in the family,” Corinne says.When Corinne and Jerome play at the Bella Union, the audience feels like part of the family too.
